The Top 25 Largest ICOs

We decided to find out which ICOs have raised the largest amount of funds and what happened to them afterward. EOS, Telegram Open Network, and UNUS SED LEO take the top three positions by a large margin. These projects are also the only ones that raised more than a billion in ICOs.

EOS is a blockchain platform for decentralized applications and businesses. The team held an ICO over 11 months, resulting in raising more than $4 billion. Large venture capital funds and ordinary people invested in the project. In June 2018, the project launched its platform, which it is now actively developing. A year later, Daniel Larimer, the project’s technical director, announced that EOS would create a social network aimed at increasing the mass adaptation of the project by society.

Telegram Open Network (TON) is one of the best ICO projects in history. It conducted two ICO stages and was able to raise $850 million per stage. The minimum participation threshold was $10 million. Today, the project is under development and promises to create a new internet with many integrated services.

UNUS SED LEO is a Bitfinex exchange and utility token built on the Ethereum platform. An ICO was held in early May, and the offer was bought out during the presale. The exchange token is actively now used and is invariably included in the top 20 cryptocurrencies in terms of capitalization.

Growth Leaders

The TRON project has become the undisputed leader by the growth of ICO fees. Having collected $70 million in June 2017, the project has grown by 17 times in just two years in terms of capitalization. Moreover, it grew to a total of $5.6 billion this winter when TRON rose to be the sixth top cryptocurrency.

TRON is another blockchain platform and a competitor for Ethereum. In June 2018, it launched a minenet and reached two million transactions per day in just six months, second only to EOS.

TRON is actively developing. In January 2019, it announced the purchase of one of the largest torrent companies with more than 100 million users: BitTorrent.

Tezos and GateChain Token are second and third lines in terms of growth, having grown by 3.5 and two times, respectively.

Tezos is one of the most famous ICO projects. It raised $232 million in just nine minutes, which was an absolute record at the time. But then conflicts arose between the team members, and as a result, development stopped. Only six months later, all issues were resolved, and Tezos launched its blockchain platform in August 2018.

GateChain Token is a relatively young token, and its ICO was held in the spring of 2019. This token is an exchange token on the Gate.io trading platform. Currently, it is the 39th cryptocurrency in terms of capitalization.

The Biggest Falls

Nine out of 25 coins have seen a drop in capitalization of more than 80%:

  • Dragonchain (DRGN)
  • SIRIN LABS Token (SRN)
  • Bancor (BNT)
  • MobileGo (MGO)
  • Envion (EVN)
  • Polymath (POLY)
  • TenX (PAY)

The total amount raised during the ICO of the above projects was $1.15 billion, and their total capitalization was only 90 million. The fall was a phenomenal 92%!

Dead Projects

The Dotcoin cryptocurrency was an exchange token for the popular New Zealand exchange Cryptopia. But in the spring, the founder of the exchange disappeared and took with him the keys every cryptocurrency wallet. Subsequently, Cryptopia announced its liquidation, and the Dotcoin token disappeared.
